https://community.torproject.org/relay/setup/bridge/debian-ubuntu/
When I hit this step:
`systemctl enable --now tor@default`
I'll get this:
```
The unit files have no installation config (WantedBy=, RequiredBy=, Also=,
Alias= settings in the [Install] section, and DefaultInstance= for template
units). This means they are not meant to be enabled using systemctl.
Possible reasons for having this kind of units are:
• A unit may be statically enabled by being symlinked from another unit's
.wants/ or .requires/ directory.
• A unit's purpose may be to act as a helper for some other unit which has
a requirement dependency on it.
• A unit may be started when needed via activation (socket, path, timer,
D-Bus, udev, scripted systemctl call, ...).
• In case of template units, the unit is meant to be enabled with some
instance name specified.
Job for tor@default.service failed because the control process exited with error code.
See "systemctl status tor@default.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.
```
I'm using a generic Ubuntu 20.04 instance on EC2/AWS.
Indeed the error message seems correct. It seems I need to manually edit:
`/lib/systemd/system/tor@default.service` which is missing the [Install] section at the bottom.
After adding:
```
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
```
To the bottom of `tor@default.service` unit file, it fixes the issue of me running, `systemctl enable --now tor@default`.
But my main question is, should this unit file be manually updated? or is the install doc missing a step? or is something else going wrong?

I looked up the docs and figured that it's probably because snowflake requires lots of ports or so. I figured that my trust in the tor project is pretty high, and so I'm running a snowflake node.
But, I'm not really sure what network conditions it needs. Does it expect that `network_mode: host` means it's running on a host which has a publicly accessible IP? Does it needs ports on that host's firewall open?
The idea behind this issue is to improve the docs in this area so that snowflake hosts like myself can figure out what network conditions are required for snowflake to work. For example, I have no idea if my node is actually functional right now, I also have no idea how to test it.
Some example questions we could aim to answer:
- What ports does snowflake run on?
- Does snowflake need to be run on a machine with a public IP?
- Does snowflake run properly if behind a NAT?
- Does snowflake require specific ports to be opened in the system firewall?
- How can a server admin test if snowflake is properly configured and working?
As an add on, it would be great to see answers to questions like these:
- How much bandwidth can one expect snowflake to use?
- Does it make sense to add any kind of limits?
- If so, how would that be done?
- Are there any security considerations to running a snowflake server?
- What sort of system resources (CPU, memory) does snowflake use?
- Does it make sense to check on this periodically for memory leaks, etc?
- How can one be notified when updates are published to the docker image?
- Is there a security mailing list where one could be notified of any security issues that require urgent update of the snowflake server?
Finally, thanks for making the tor network more resilient, snowflake looks to be an awesome improvement for people in locations with internet censorship, and thanks for working on tor in general, it's a phenomenal resource supporting the human experience.https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/web/support/-/issues/280Discourage more running a browser in parallel to Tor Browser2022-11-30T16:52:28ZGeorg KoppenDiscourage more running a browser in parallel to Tor BrowserWe have https://support.torproject.org/tbb/tbb-17/ for answering the question about whether it is safe to running a different browser in parallel to Tor Browser.

It's correct that *Tor Browser's* privacy features are unaffected by that but we should stress more the risk of linking both browsing activities.
Maybe something like
```
If you run Tor Browser and another browser at the same time, it won't affect Tor's performance or privacy properties. However, be aware that when using Tor and another browser at the same time, your Tor activity could be linked to your non-Tor (real) IP from the other browser, simply by moving your mouse from one browser into the other. Or you may imply forget and accidentally use that non-private browser to do something that you intended to do in Tor Browser instead.
```

...There's some inconsistency among the specs (and code doesn't necessarily match the specs either) about how pluggable transports quote or escape special characters in transport arguments. See legacy/trac#12930 for additional background.
Proposal:
* Explicitly disallow whitespace (or control characters for that matter) in keys or values of PT arguments. (No PT does this now that I know of, and people with Unix-ish backgrounds are likely to avoid using whitespace in this context anyway.)
* Explicitly disallow `=` and `\` in keys of PT arguments. (I'm assuming PT designers have more flexibility in choosing keys than value encodings, but if this poses a problem for someone please speak up.)
* Allow but discourage `=` in values of PT arguments. (If you encode something in base64 or base32, try to truncate the trailing padding.)
* Allow but discourage `\` in values of PT arguments.
* Require `\` to be escaped by `\` (in addition to escaping `,`, which is already required) in `SMETHOD ARGS` and `transport` lines of `extra-info` documents. (Almost everywhere else I've seen that uses `\` for escaping also requires that `\` itself be escaped, and it's closer to what people already expect. goptlib already implemented this despite it not being specified in `pt-spec.txt`)
* Do not require `=` to be escaped by `\` in `SMETHOD ARGS` and `transport` lines of `extra-info` documents.
* Do not require any PT argument characters to be escaped in BridgeDB output or `Bridge` lines in `torrc`. (Any `\` characters stand for themselves. This requires the fewest changes to existing `tor` code.)https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/anti-censorship/pluggable-transports/snowflake/-/issues/40080Document Snowflake's FreeBSD Package/Port2021-12-06T15:44:03ZVinícius ZavamDocument Snowflake's FreeBSD Package/Portwe just introduced Snowflake to the [FreeBSD](https://www.freebsd.org/)'s ports tree:

today version **[v2.0.1](ead5a960d7fa19dc890ccbfc0765c5ab6629eaa9)** was ported to the ports collection, used to build official packages for FreeBSD. now we should have [official packages](https://pkg.freebsd.org/) available to install Snowflake ]=)
there are 3 different binaries shipping with its package:
```
snowflake
snowflake-client
snowflake-proxy
```
FreeBSD uses `pkg` as its official/main packages manager. it provides an interface for manipulating packages: registering, adding, removing and upgrading packages. after installing a package, we can be presented a message containing few notes about a particular software.
we worked out to present intuitive instructions to setup following scenarios:
- standalone proxy;
- client transport plugin,
- server transport plugin.
besides Snowflake's source code and its documentations, the following material was used to build the port:
> https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/core/tor/-/issues/21453
>
> https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/core/tor/-/issues/24203
on top of that, the [Snowflake Bridge Survival Guide](https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/anti-censorship/team/-/wikis/Survival-Guides/Snowflake-Bridge-Survival-Guide) was also pretty handy
by running the standalone proxy on FreeBSD, this would be an output of its log file:
