Testing the fluent file https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/applications/torbutton/-/blob/main/chrome/locale/en-US/branding/brand.ftl I realised some issues with the locales.
### locale 'ku' is an umbrella for several locales
we have a 'ku' locale directory at https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/applications/torbutton/-/blob/main/chrome/locale/ku/
This term means Kurdish, but there are many different Kurdish locales, so this is not really a locale. THe most important locales are Central Kurdish or Sorani (ckb), and Northern Kurdish (kmr), which is also called Kurmanji.
I could not import `ku` on weblate, the same should happen in transifex, and also it is in English anyway, so we are not losing any translations.
**Please remove the 'ku' folders from the repo.**
### Too many Bengali versions
This may be somehow my responsibility: in Transifex we have the language code 'bn', but for Firefox we need bn-IN or bn-BD. I suggest we stick to one language on the translation platform and if we cannot publish 'bn', we should decide on one country code or publish it in both.Sponsor 131 - Phase 5 - Ongoing Maintenancehttps://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/community/l10n/-/issues/40122Clean up tmx files in weblate2023-11-02T13:25:17ZemmapeelClean up tmx files in weblateWe have lots of memory files in weblate that need to be cleaned up. Many have English terms instead of translations, because of a limitation of some translation files (they cannot provide empty strigs), and so many memories are full of bad translations.
We should clean them up and reupload them, with a healthy translation memory we can improve our consistency and prevent common mistakes from appearing again.
In weblate: https://hosted.weblate.org/memory/project/tor/ the ones that do not say 'rebuild' are backups from transifex that need to be cleaned - maybe unified as well.emmapeelemmapeelhttps://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/ux/research/-/issues/87Collect and analyze feedback from trainings in EA2022-08-12T18:18:59ZNahCollect and analyze feedback from trainings in EAOrganizations that will be running Tor and digital security trainings are being instructed to collect feedback during their trainings, either using a survey hosted by Tor (for remote trainings) or a printed form (for in person trainings)...Organizations that will be running Tor and digital security trainings are being instructed to collect feedback during their trainings, either using a survey hosted by Tor (for remote trainings) or a printed form (for in person trainings).

Each question is optional and may be skipped, which should be made clear to the participant. In addition, it would be good to include some text at the top of the questionnaire to explain why we collect demographics, e.g.
- To ensure we are reaching users from diverse backgrounds, and that marginalized groups are represented.
- Some funders require us to report back basic information (e.g. the gender breakdown of our studies) for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
- To identify basic trends in our studies.
And how we safeguard their information, e.g.
- Questions are general and do not ask the participant to disclose personal information.
- Demographic data is aggregated per study in our reporting.
- The raw demographic data is deleted as per our data handling policy.
**Estimate**: Medium × Moderate = 3–4.5 d

For moderated studies, the facilitator should use individual worksheets to record the responses of each participant. For unmoderated studies like the diary study, worksheets should be distributed to each participant to be completed and returned to the facilitator at at a later date.
At the end of the study, facilitators are required to send the completed worksheets back to the Tor Project for analysis. A dropbox on Nextcloud would be sufficient for this purpose.Sponsor 9 - Phase 7 - Usability and Community Intervention on Support for Democracy and Human Rightssajolidasajolidahttps://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/web/community/-/issues/214Create style or slide template to better support slides with images2021-06-22T12:25:53ZGusCreate style or slide template to better support slides with imagesI'm creating a set of training slides on Lektor, but I'm having some formatting issues like adding images and alignments.

As a good practice, we try to avoid mixing markdown content and HTML, because translators can get confused.

In the previous phase of work, we prepared two studies for our partners to choose from. We'd like to do the same in Phase 7 in order to provide our participants with a choice of user research that suits their approach—i.e. in person or remote.
For the first study, we would like our partners to collect interactive feedback on one of our existing webpages or a proposed redesign. Examples of similar activities from last year include https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/ux/research/-/issues/103 and https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/ux/research/-/issues/105.
For the second study, we would like our partners to facilitate a diary study to discover what pain points or barriers to adoption users face in their first few weeks of using Tor Browser.
Each testing plan should include, for example:
- A summary of the activity, including the format and duration.
- The hypothesis we're testing or question we're trying to answer.
- Any additional background to the problem we're researching, if relevant.
- A list of the things both the facilitator and their participants will need.
- A step by step guide to accomplish the activity, including the required questions and prompts.
- How to collect their results and report back to Tor.

We have a partner, Localization Lab, that helps us coordinate this work with volunteer translators all around the world.
As part of the objective 1, we will automate how training material text is funneled into the localization portal. Right now, localizing training materials demands a very manual process that takes lots of staff time to move content into the translation platform used by Localization Lab volunteers. We want to automate this process so that we can translate training materials much faster, and maintain or change the translated versions more easily. In this Objective, we will build tools to do so.
The tools will
1. Automatically get the strings to be translated from mardown training materials (in https://community.torproject.org/training/resources) into Transifex.
2. Automatically get the strings translated from Transifex and build the slides in pdf/odp published translated to the different languages into our community portal (in https://community.torproject.org/training/resources).Sponsor 9 - Phase 5 - Usability and Community Intervention on Support for Democracy and Human Rightsemmapeelemmapeel2021-03-11https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/community/training/-/issues/13Design a template to include partners material2021-06-24T15:31:23ZAntonelaantonela@torproject.orgDesign a template to include partners material@gus has been working selecting partner's material [here](https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/community/training/-/issues/12).
