I can use this comment to lower the priority of such strings, with the 'Bulk edit' addon in Weblate.
I tested it on the https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/tor/tor-browser/tb-settingsproperties/ component, I need to add it to the others.
I look for strings with `note:"Will be unused in Tor Browser"`.emmapeelemmapeelhttps://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/web/team/-/issues/50Make web searches for Tor Browser more useful2024-01-25T19:58:46ZPhilipp Winterphw@torproject.orgMake web searches for Tor Browser more useful(I'm filing this under community/outreach for lack of a better component.)

When people try to get a copy of Tor Browser, they likely search for "tor download" in their favourite search engine. The phrase "tor download" results in the following:
* Google's first result points to our download page. The second result is techspot.com/downloads/5183-tor-browser.html, a third-party download site.
* Bing's first result also points to our download page. The second result is tor.en.lo4d.com, a third-party download site.
* Same story with Yahoo: the first results points to our download page and the second is a third-party download site.
* Yandex's first three results point to our download pages. The fourth is a third-party download site.
* Baidu's top results are all third-party download sites:
* tor-browser-download.en.softonic.com
* tor.brothersoft.com (unrelated to us)
* tor-browser.updatestar.com/en
There are a few things we could do to make web searches for Tor Browser more useful:
* Gus pointed out that we can mention GetTor in torproject.org's website description. Google makes this possible over some sort of webmaster UI. Maybe other search engines provide similar functionality. Our website's description could say something along the lines of "Unable to load this website? Send an email to !gettor@tp.o to get Tor Browser".
* Reach out to receptive third-party download sites. We recently discovered t-browser.sourceforge.net over baidu. It seems to be a third-party download site with good intentions. We could reach out to such webmasters and work with them to make their sites more useful.https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/ux/research/-/issues/136Onboard and coordinate user research grantees2024-03-27T19:07:43ZdonutsOnboard and coordinate user research granteesIn https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/ux/research/-/issues/128, we prepared two sets of materials for Privacy Resilience Grant recipients to use in their activities. - A desirability study of the new illustrations: https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/ux/research/-/issues/137
- A card sorting study of the support-dot menu: https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/ux/research/-/issues/8
Although we plan to distribute the desirability study to all Privacy Resilience Grant recipients, only the three partners who opted-in to conduct moderated user research will perform the card sorting activity. That second group of three partners will subsequently require more hands-on onboarding.
**Checklist**
- [ ] Finalize the user research materials for each activity
- [ ] Forward the materials to partners via email
- [ ] Co-ordinate a time to onboard our three card sorting facilitators on a BBB call (@raya will send round a poll)
- [ ] Provide ad-hoc support for research activities to all partners as required (e.g. via email, Signal or IRC/Matrix)

We are working on dealing with these shady apps BUT we need a way for people to get a link to where to download the Onion Browser directly from the download page. Right now we have a link in a tiny phrase at the bottom.

It's a mix of teaching, investigation, research, advocacy, and training.
As this is a new initiative, we should:
* Meet with other organizations running similar programs like Amnesty digital forensics fellowship (2023-Q3)
* Survey partners about their expectations (2023-Q3)
* Write internal documentation about the program (2023-Q3/Q4)

- Our methodology (i.e. the processes we follow)

We've identified several opportunities for improvement to the torproject.org/download page based on both user feedback and observations made during user research throughout the course of the Sponsor 9 project.
Before we get started, we need to decide how comprehensive these changes should be – e.g.:
- Simple fixes to the current template, based on direct user feedback
- A light redesign of the current template
- A complete redesign of the current template, with future-proofing in mind (i.e. the addition of a new client in future)
In addition, we will need to agree on a strategy for whether this page is principally about Tor Browser stable, Tor Browser in general, Tor in general, or all downloadable Tor Project software. Should the outcome include a combination of some or all of these categories (which is not unlikely), an appropriate hierarchy will be required both on-page and within the section as a whole to ensure the most popular user journeys are not obfuscated by dozens of links.Sponsor 9 - Phase 7 - Usability and Community Intervention on Support for Democracy and Human Rightsdonutsdonuts2024-01-12https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/community/outreach/-/issues/40053Review and update the street team kit2024-03-25T22:29:02ZdonutsReview and update the street team kitMany of the materials that are part of the [Street Team Kit](https://community.torproject.org/outreach/kit/) are out of date (from a brand/design POV), designed for print, and/or cannot be updated because the original working files are l...Many of the materials that are part of the [Street Team Kit](https://community.torproject.org/outreach/kit/) are out of date (from a brand/design POV), designed for print, and/or cannot be updated because the original working files are long gone. As such, we should:
- Review the list to decide on which materials we want to keep and update, and in what order.
- Update each to match our new brand guidelines, when ready.
- Update the layouts so they're suitable for both digital use and print.
- Implement feedback from LATAM partners collected here: https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/ux/research/-/issues/22#note_2825275
- Improve accessibility where possible—I believe some of these were originally done in Sketch, so text recognition/text to speech may not be great.
I don't expect we'll be able to redo all of these materials in a single phase, however.Sponsor 9 - Phase 7 - Usability and Community Intervention on Support for Democracy and Human Rightsnicobnicobhttps://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/community/l10n/-/issues/40133Separate translation contributions per person in the commits, just in case2024-02-13T13:27:07ZemmapeelSeparate translation contributions per person in the commits, just in caseWatching the video at https://fosdem.org/2024/schedule/event/fosdem-2024-1906-lessons-learnt-as-a-translation-contributor-the-past-4-years/ I think I need to change the configuration of our components in weblate.

To save space, and because I can see this information in weblate if I need it, I was squashing translators contributions in weblate all together in one commit. But if a translator would want to remove its contributions, it will be a very difficult thing to do. So it is better to separate the contributions and have one commit per person.emmapeelemmapeelhttps://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/community/l10n/-/issues/40023Update documentation for developers2024-02-14T10:15:48ZemmapeelUpdate documentation for developersMaybe it was lost along with trac, maybe it was never there...
