Right now they are only in a page on the Tor Browser wiki, and we think that they are difficult to find.
Therefore, having a link there would help us because it could lead more users to test nighlies.

This results in sometimes having pages that are not completely translated.
We should detect this problem and invite readers to become translators. This can be done with a message that says, for example:
'This page is $% translated. Our translations are made by a team of volunteers.
If you want to help us improve our translation to $LANGUAGE, please [become a Tor translator](https://community.torproject.org/localization/becoming-tor-translator/)'
This will help readers engage with the team in a more positive way, while also denoting when a translation has not been looked at for a while.https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/ux/research/-/issues/62Design a more visual template for user research reports2022-12-21T16:03:01ZdonutsDesign a more visual template for user research reportsNah writes [lots of fantastic user research reports](https://community.torproject.org/user-research/reports/), however we struggle to get both the internal and the wider UX Community engaged in the plain text format. Instead, we experimented with slightly more high-fidelity reports for both the [Snowflake](https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/ux/research/-/blob/master/reports/2021/public-snowflake-survey-report.pdf) and [Tor Browser user surveys](https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/ux/research/-/blob/master/reports/2021/tor-browser-user-survey-public.pdf) – however these were laborious to produce in Figma, introduced me as a bottleneck, needed converted into presentations anyway and most people just looked at the charts.
So, our proposed solution to this problem is to produce a more visual template for user research reports. The new template should:
- Be built on an easy to edit wysiwyg presentation platform (e.g. Google slides) so anyone can edit/duplicate without needing to be a designer.
- Be of a moderate information density to serve crosspurposes, i.e. plenty information to satisfy readers, while being light enough that they're also suitable for presentations without further editing.
- Include sufficient templates to cover our content needs (e.g. various forms of charts, tables, quotes, text slides, maps etc.).
- Roughly align with our evolving brand look and feel.
The first thing I'd like to use the new template for is the VPN survey report, which you could treat as a starting point (i.e. begin designing around the VPN survey content, and then expand to include other content types later): https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/ux/research/-/issues/50

We've identified several opportunities for improvement to the torproject.org/download page based on both user feedback and observations made during user research throughout the course of the Sponsor 9 project.
Before we get started, we need to decide how comprehensive these changes should be – e.g.:
- Simple fixes to the current template, based on direct user feedback
- A light redesign of the current template
- A complete redesign of the current template, with future-proofing in mind (i.e. the addition of a new client in future)
In addition, we will need to agree on a strategy for whether this page is principally about Tor Browser stable, Tor Browser in general, Tor in general, or all downloadable Tor Project software. Should the outcome include a combination of some or all of these categories (which is not unlikely), an appropriate hierarchy will be required both on-page and within the section as a whole to ensure the most popular user journeys are not obfuscated by dozens of links.Sponsor 9 - Phase 7 - Usability and Community Intervention on Support for Democracy and Human Rightsdonutsdonuts2024-01-12https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/web/manual/-/issues/99Update known issues page - Tor Browser desktop and mobile2024-01-30T13:40:21ZGusUpdate known issues page - Tor Browser desktop and mobileAccording to the [blog post](https://blog.torproject.org/new-release-tor-browser-105), here's a list of known issues that we need to update the Tor Browser Manual:

We should write an appropriate metadescription and add the corresponding tag to the page – e.g.:

But:
* (1) The thing that you can download from this /tor/ page is the source code for the tor proxy, whereas the Tor download page gives you Tor Browser and implies that it's Tor, so if I wanted to download the source code for the Tor that I can get on the download page, I'd expect to be getting the Tor Browser source code.
* (2) We're shipping compiled Windows "expert mode Tor" binaries from this page too, which is a surprising place to find them since the label says 'source code'.
One option would be to put Tor Browser source code onto that page too, and make a new page which has the Windows expert mode packages. But I bet the UX people don't want to complicate the download page with even more links, and that makes sense.
Another option would be to make a more comprehensive "alternate downloads" page, which includes source code pointers (both Tor Browser and Tor) plus alternative Tor Browser builds (like the expert bundle) plus also pointers to our deb page and rpm page, and maybe even pointers to other Tor things that you might want to download (nyx? Guardian Project things?).
Maybe this bigger page is something we imagined for one of the sub websites like dev.tpo, and we could just link to it from here? Or maybe we do want a central page on the main website to tell people how else to download Tor things?Sponsor 9 - Phase 7 - Usability and Community Intervention on Support for Democracy and Human Rightsdonutsdonutshttps://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/web/tpo/-/issues/112Autodetect visitors' user agents and suggest the right Tor Browser to download2023-08-15T18:56:47ZGusAutodetect visitors' user agents and suggest the right Tor Browser to downloadNowadays websites autodetect and suggest users to download the right browser for their operating system.

For example: if you're a Linux user, Firefox website is going to suggest you to download Firefox for Linux when you click on "Download". This also happens on Brave and Google Chrome websites.
I'd like to have something similar for Tor Browser, so we can test and see if we can increase the download of Tor Browser in different languages.
Expectation:
For Desktop users, when they click on "Download Tor Browser" in torproject.org, they will be redirected to http://torproject.org/download and a Tor Browser with their locale + Operating System + OS arch (32-bit or 64-bit) will pop-up to download. If their locale is not available, it will download the standard English version. Users can cancel the download, and select which browser version they want to download.Sponsor 9 - Phase 7 - Usability and Community Intervention on Support for Democracy and Human Rightsdonutsdonuts2024-01-12https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/web/tpo/-/issues/87Windows option on the download page defaults to 64 bit2023-08-15T19:00:08ZGusWindows option on the download page defaults to 64 bitFrom the TPO site. When people try to get a copy of Tor Browser, they likely search for "tor download" in their favourite search engine. The phrase "tor download" results in the following:
* Google's first result points to our download page. The second result is techspot.com/downloads/5183-tor-browser.html, a third-party download site.
* Bing's first result also points to our download page. The second result is tor.en.lo4d.com, a third-party download site.
* Same story with Yahoo: the first results points to our download page and the second is a third-party download site.
* Yandex's first three results point to our download pages. The fourth is a third-party download site.
* Baidu's top results are all third-party download sites:
* tor-browser-download.en.softonic.com
* tor.brothersoft.com (unrelated to us)
* tor-browser.updatestar.com/en
There are a few things we could do to make web searches for Tor Browser more useful:
* Gus pointed out that we can mention GetTor in torproject.org's website description. Google makes this possible over some sort of webmaster UI. Maybe other search engines provide similar functionality. Our website's description could say something along the lines of "Unable to load this website? Send an email to !gettor@tp.o to get Tor Browser".
* Reach out to receptive third-party download sites. We recently discovered t-browser.sourceforge.net over baidu. It seems to be a third-party download site with good intentions. We could reach out to such webmasters and work with them to make their sites more useful.
