Many android apps that are not designed to work with tor frequently fail connections while transparent proxying is enabled. For example firefox and chromium often say "cannot create secure connection" or "site could not be loaded". Most times, the bug disappears after 2-3 times refreshing the page, but ofter the sites are not loaded correctly then.
Other apps cannot connect to the internet at all. (Eg. NasaPic)
Im on rooted (Superuser) CopperheadOS (hardened Android based on AOSP 6.0.1 marshmallow) on a Nexus 5.
I installed Orbot from your FDroid-repo and granted it root for transparent proxy (proxy all applications).
Do you need more information? Im not sure, whether its an Issue caused by CopperheadOS or by Orbot. I remember using Orbot on CM12 without these issues.

If you enable transparent proxying of all apps ("tor everything"), along with enabling a WiFi hotspot from your phone, any clients attempting to connect to your phone's hotspot will be unable to get a DHCP lease. It seems it might be involved with the iptables rules that Orbot sets up.
Enabling the option "Tor tethering" doesn't appear to make a difference either. Connecting to the network and then enabling Orbot will cause DNS to stop working.
This means that I cannot effectively both have all of my apps Tor-ified on my phone and also have a wifi-hotspot open for my laptop (even if I'm not trying to tor-ify my laptop's internet).

The surrounding code is because syncthing allows you to set normal/low/none for notification type. We could add that later, but for now, keeping the orbot notification out of the active notification list would be helpful. (Users don't need it to bump other notifications off their lock screen.)

When I start Orbot on either of these devices, I get the same exception - something about not being able to find tor.mp3. Here's the log, which is identical on both devices:

I suspect what's happening is that both of these devices have newer architectures and for some reason tor.mp3 is getting put in some architecture-specific location. But I'm really not enough of an expert to tell for sure.

Right before I was stil running the stock ROM (KitKat 4.4.2) with root access and it worked perfect.
Now since I changed the ROM, could never connect Orbot. Tried with different versions unsuccessfully. I also asked for different bridge types (Scramblesuit, obfs3, obfs4, etc) but none of the worked.
Right now I'm running 15.0.1-RC-2-PIE (Tor 0.2.6.10) and this is what I get when I enable Bridge Relays:

Question is, does it have anything to do with the ROM, the kernel, or nothing at all? I've been using Orbot for 3 years already and never got this kind of stuck.
Thank you so much for your help.

I do not want to proxy "MmsService" because is wont download MMS messages when proxied. So when I untick the matching check box and leave the dialogue and go back in it is rechecked again.
I reinstalled Orbot and tried to "proxy none" and choose then all the apps I want. But Orbot just ticks "MmsService" after I left the window again and don't lets me untick it.
The workaround is to always disable Orbot entirely when I receive a MMS message.

Using Orbot on VPN Mode without Outbound Proxies work (as expected I guess).
Tested on Android One (specifically Cherry Mobile One) and LG Optimus L3 II E425.
Disabling VPN Mode, the connection to Tor is a success, but as you expect, you cannot connect to Tor without the root-hook or the VPN mode. Enabling VPN Mode after making the connection to Tor also does not work. (for obvious reasons).
I assume this has something do to with the VPN function in Android screwing around with how Tor connects to outbound proxies...?
