Even after 'ControlPort' setting has been changed in torrc, TorCP still uses the Control Port setting listed

While this isn't a showstopper - it is weird (and annoying) behaviour. TorCP should either updated torrc to reflect the
General tab setting or use the torrc setting to update the General tab setting.

Nothing appears in the log either. Privoxy gives the 503 too.
Once killed it then connects and server starts and says accepting connections and orport reachable etc. and all back to normal

However the "Vidallia" interface will be installed.
If you then follow the uninstall instructions under http://tor.eff.org/docs/tor-doc-osx.html.en , the Vidallia interface remains.
Installing the standard OSX 10.3 Tor package at this point results in Vidallia controlling and visualizing the OSX 10.3 Tor executable.
The only caveat is that the Vidallia preferences are unable to be saved:
Jun 17 10:49:34:251 [Notice] write_configuration_file(): Renaming old configuration file to "/Library/tor/torrc.orig.1"
Jun 17 10:49:34:258 [Warning] write_configuration_file(): Couldn't rename "/Library/tor/torrc" to "/Library/tor/torrc.orig.1": Permission denied
The directory in question "/Library/Tor" has the following permissions:
drwxr-xr-x 14 root wheel 476 17 Jun 10:42 Tor
As the only user who has access to the directory is root (no other user has wheel group by default), the write operation fails.
Giving world write permissions to "/Library/Tor" fixes the issue; howerver doing this compromises security of the daemon.
It is usually a general policy not to add system privledges (i.e. the "wheel" group) to regular users. Although this can be done it is not reccomended.

Since I'm running the TOR-Videlia bundle (0.1.1.23_0.0.7) on my laptop I have
to change the configuration file depending on my location. I'm using the
Advanced tab to accomplish this. So I made two configuration files, one "house"

change of the file isn't picked up by Tor. Also stopping starting doesn't seem
to help. Only doing an Exit and restarting it enables the other configuration.

I then went to Add/Remove Programs and removed both versions of Tor, Vidalia and Privoxy.
I then went to MSCONFIG and removed checks from all instances of TOR, Vidalia and Privoxy
and then restarted and re-installed the new versions again and go the same errors.
I tried finding the older versions of Tor on Google/Yahoo, but they since been removed and all download links
lead to the newer bundled version of Tor with Vidalia. Please inform me how to get Tor running again.

at net.freehaven.tor.control.TorControlConnection1.getConf(TorControlConnection1.java:325)
at net.freehaven.tor.control.TorControlConnection.getConf(TorControlConnection.java:148)
An example for this is requesting the configuration for "DirServer" without having specified such an option in the
configuration file. The result from Tor is just "DirServer", not "DirServer=nodeXY...".
The explanation is that the following code (from TorControlConnection1) assumes that every line is formatted as
"key=value" which is not the case:
for (Iterator it = lst.iterator(); it.hasNext(); ) {
String kv = ((ReplyLine) it.next()).msg;
int idx = kv.indexOf('=');
result.add(new ConfigEntry(kv.substring(0, idx),
kv.substring(idx+1)));
}
A possible solution could be to create and add a ConfigEntry only if idx != -1. At least, this works for DirServer.

but I have no idea what interface it would be. Since polipo doesn't want to modify http headers,

I'm thinking the best way to do this is to divvy up the proxy settings box into two tabs, Tor
