TBB/Vidalia/Power Comsumption

Background: I travel on public transport for several hours a day. I read news whilst traveling with a laptop: Tor Browser with many open tabs.

Issue:

Various web sites (wired.com is one) deliver content which causes tor (not the browser, the socks proxy) to flatline a CPU. Turning Tor off, via Vidalia, stops this (thus longer battery life and cooler laptop and can still read the news).

Please make it possible to stop/start the proxy again without terminating the browser.

Behaviour is true for TBB 3.6.3 (and previous to when Vidalia disappeared/was merged).
