Tor Browser doesn't close/exit correctly

Tor Browser (4.0.4) is showing inconsistent and faulty behavior for me when I try to close it. When I close the browser, the window disappears like expected, but the process isn't terminated, it just keeps running (although not recognizable unless I start Tor Browser from the terminal).

If I then later (in the same desktop session) want to open Tor Browser again, I get the "Firefox is already running" error popup.

After restarting the computer, when I start Tor Browser, it opens normally but then, instead of a blank tab, shows this error page: Well, this is embarrassing. Tor Browser is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opened web page. and offering to restore the last tab from my previous session.

This happens most, but not all of the time when I close the browser, and I haven't really been able to work out under what conditions it will work normally or fail like this. (Also not by starting it from a terminal with --debug.) Also, apart from this (after I click "Close" for the "restore my previous session" suggestion, or after I manually kill the still running process), everything seems to work fine. But it's still annoying.

Versions: OS: Linux 3.18.6-1-ARCH x86_64 Tor Browser: 4.0.4
