Mac startup script failing on OSX 10.4

From memory Tor stopped working after I did the latest OSX 10.4 upgrades. It now fails to start from the startup script with the error

:~ $ Jul 22 14:26:57.559 [notice] Tor v0.1.0.12. This is experimental software. Do not rely on it for strong anonymity. Jul 22 14:26:57.576 [err] switch_id(): Error setting GID: Operation not permitted Jul 22 14:26:57.577 [err] init_from_config(): Acting on config options left us in a broken state. Dying.

However running /Library/Tor/tor as my user it has no such problem.

Jul 22 14:33:26.843 [notice] Tor v0.1.0.12. This is experimental software. Do not rely on it for strong anonymity. Jul 22 14:33:26.846 [notice] Initialized libevent version 1.1a using method poll Jul 22 14:33:33.862 [notice] Tor has successfully opened a circuit. Looks like it's working.

I have removed and reinstalled Tor since doing the OSX upgrades as well as trying the 0.1.1 version, both failing to start.
