Tor Browser Unable to 'Add to Favorites' (sidebar) Ubuntu 17.10
Dear developers/designers,
I just downloaded and installed Tor as instructed from torproject.org. I started tor browser using the gui from the folder where I installed it. However, after left clicking the icon in the Favorites pane, there was no option to 'Add to Favorites'. That this option is absent by default is a problem for non-experts who want to be able to start up Tor just as easily as they would their 'normal' browser. Almost all other applications offer this option.
Version: tor-browser-linux64-7.5.3_en-US.tar.xz
Ubuntu version 17.10 with GNOME version 3.26.2.
When opening the .desktop file I saw:
You can also add Tor Browser to your desktop's application menu by running './start-tor-browser.desktop --register-app'
After following this instruction I could use the 'Add to Favorites' option. While that solved the issue for me, it would be most beneficial if it is made default at install of the TBB. This to help normal Linux users who are not experts, and to save all users time and effort of finding out about this solution.
Please let me know if you need more information for me. Thank you very much! You are freeing a large part of the world :)
Best,
Fin
