Combine Control Panel and Settings
I can't see any reason for both the 'Control Panel' and 'Settings' to exist. Why not take the Setting window as the main window, and add the elements from the Control Panel as a new tab (such as the existing General, network, Sharing etc). This new tab could be called status and be the first (i.e. on the left).
