Cannot install Tor on USB on macOS

I have tried maybe 10 times to download and install Tor to a USB drive, as I have been told that it the safest way to use Tor when travelling. I can download the package (and have done so from both the Tor project site and by emailing gettor.. I use Mac OSX.

I can download the dmg package, but on OSX it only wants me to drag the icon to the App folder on the main computer. There doesn't seem to be any way to install it to the USB. I've tried dragging the icon to the USB folder but it says 'Your Tor file seems to be damaged, put it in the bin.'

I've read all the troubleshooting and FAQ but none of them advise on this. Can anyone help?

Thanks Tellura
