Torbutton should be usable without Tor (or any proxy settings)

Since several months I use Torbutton instead of other Firefox extensions (like User Agent Switcher and RefControl). It even enhance NoScript as it hooks dangerous JavaScript code.

Unfortunately this is only possible when using Tor (or if at least a proxy is configured): Otherwise Torbutton switches off. Wouldn't it be nice to have the features at hand during normal surf sessions? To not confuse regular users an option in about:config would be IMHO sufficient.
