fix re-attach listeners test

Unfortunately, the recent fix0 for password authentication reduces the three authentication tests to three copies of the same test. This patch1 restores the three different tests with optional password use.
RUN_COOKIE and RUN_SCOOKIE targets are still broken. I think the way to fix this is to use different call semantics based on the test target. I'll look into that.
