Snowflake extension on Firefox uses 100% cpu and stays there

I noticed a few days ago that my Firefox is using 100% cpu on one core, and in about:performance it says that it is the Snowflake extension that's doing it.

I click on the little snowflake, and it says I have helped 5 people in the last 24 hours (yay!), but am I really supposed to be using 100% cpu all the time?

At first I thought maybe I'm just handling a lot of traffic, but it has been like this for two days now. I just turned off my wifi and the 100% cpu remained. I think something is wedged inside the browser.

It's not clear if this is a snowflake bug, or a Firefox bug, or what. But I told @cohosh about it and she asked me to file a ticket. I'm also not clear on how to properly debug it.
