Onion rewrite does work when opening link in a new tab

If you visit a site from an URL like http://theintercept.securedrop.tor.onion/ and open one of their links in a new tab, the new tab has a non-rewritten URL

Go to http://theintercept.securedrop.tor.onion/ or to http://2600.securedrop.tor.onion/ or to any site from https://securedrop.org/directory/
Click on generate with the mouse wheel or control and left click (right click and open in a new tab tends not to show the behavior); also opening in a new window (Shift+Left click) has the same effect
Have a look at the URL bar: it may have an URL like http://xpxduj55x2j27l2qytu2tcetykyfxbjbafin3x4i3ywddzphkbrd3jyd.onion/generate or http://cy6wj77vryhcyh6go576hxycjz4wxlo4s5vevdinkw3armwzty5jozyd.onion/generate instead of the rewritten one
Repeat 2. until you get 3.

The URL in the new tab is not rewritten (see 3. on the previous section)
