Built-in bridge strings
One thing left-over from #42036 (closed) is to change the obfs4 label from "obfs4 (Built-in)" to simply "obfs4".
To make this change I will be moving related strings from the properties file to Fluent. Whilst I am in this area I could update the descriptions.
obfs4
Currently we use
Makes your Tor traffic look like random data. May not work in heavily censored regions.
This seems ok. We could change the first sentence to be more flavourful:
Disguises your Tor traffic as random data.
Snowflake
Currently we use
Routes your connection through Snowflake proxies to make it look like you’re placing a video call, for example.
There are a few things that stand out:
- The trailing ", for example" is a awkward.
- The explanation for "Snowflake" includes the word "Snowflake proxies", which can be confusing.
Also, now that Snowflake has been in use for a while, do we want to describe it's effectiveness in a second sentence, like we do with the other options?
meek-azure
Currently we use
Makes it look like you’re connected to a Microsoft website, instead of using Tor. May work in heavily censored regions, but is usually very slow.
I think the grammar for the first sentence is slightly off:
- The "it" in "Makes it" is not referencing anything. Not 100% about the grammar on this, but this stands out.
- I don't think the comma is needed before "instead of using Tor".
Maybe something like this would be clearer:
Disguises your Tor traffic as a connection to a Microsoft website.
or
Disguises your Tor traffic to make it look like a connection to a Microsoft website.
/cc @donuts and @richard any changes or updates you would like?
