Update message for legacy OS (windows ≤8.1, macOS ≤10.14) users
In #42347 (closed) we added a banner. Currently on Windows it says
The next major version of Tor Browser (14.0) will no longer support this version of Windows. Please upgrade to Windows 10 or later by October 1st 2024 to continue receiving important security updates.
and on macOS
The next major version of Tor Browser (14.0) will no longer support this version of macOS. Please upgrade to macOS 10.15 or later by October 1st 2024 to continue receiving important security updates.
But after October 1st 2024, this will switch to
Tor Browser no longer supports this version of Windows. Please upgrade to Windows 10 or later to continue receiving important security updates.
and
Tor Browser no longer supports this version of macOS. Please upgrade to macOS 10.15 or later to continue receiving important security updates.
Moreover, this message will show at every single launch.
Given the work in #42747, this likely needs an update:
- Is the "October 1st" date still accurate?
- Maybe a new message about the extended support (for some platforms)?
- We can still keep the latter message, but just show it at the true end of the 13.5 release.
NOTE: This is technically on base-browser, so Mullvad Browser also has this warning.
