Photo and Video permissions declaration for Tor Browser for Android
Google is requiring that we submit a declaration by Jan 22, 2025 about how TBA's photo and video permissions are used, they need it to "help us understand whether it is eligible to use photo and video permissions...If your use of Photo and video permissions is not permitted according to Google Play policy, you must remove it from your app. If your app has a legitimate reason for using Photo and video permissions, you must submit this declaration between now and the compliance deadline"
Options:
- Remove Photo and video permissions permission
- "If your app has a one-time or infrequent need to access photos and videos, migrate to the Android photo picker, or a photo picker of your choice"
- Submit declaration, "If your app needs to access photos and videos frequently, let us know why you believe that you meet the requirements to use these permissions"
Deadline: Jan 22, 2025, "Your app needs to comply with this policy by this date. If your app doesn't comply or we find an issue with your submitted declaration, you will be prevented from releasing app updates until you complete the declaration and resolve any issues."
They've identified this because the apk includes these permissions in the manifest:
- Describe your app's use of the android.permission.READ_MEDIA_VIDEO permission
- Describe your app's user of the android.permission.READ_MEDIA_IMAGES permission
They provide a text box for both of those, of maximum 250 characters.
