After setting Tor as the default browser, launching it and running xdg-open https://www.example.com, a "Close Tor Browser" window pops up

After registering Tor as the default web browser via ./start-tor-browser.desktop --register-app and then running xdg-open https://www.example.com it opens the window to connect to the tor network and doesn't go to example.com. So upon having the window open now and running the command for a second time I get a window stating "Close Tor Browser: Tor Browser is already running, but is not responding. To use Tor Browser, you must first close the existing Tor Browser process, restart your device, or use a different profile." I am wondering if there's a way to open urls from this default browser since I have a lot of .url and .desktop internet files?

Reproduction steps

  1. register tor as the default browser via the command:"./start-tor-browser.desktop --register-app"
  2. run "xdg-open https://www.example.com"
  3. run it again.

Expected behaviour

I was expecting the url from the command "xdg-open https://www.example.com" to open up on tor with no problem.

Actual behaviour

Upon the first command "xdg-open https://www.example.com" it opens tor and connects to the tor network and upon the second use of "xdg-open https://www.example.com" with tor open I get the error message "Close Tor Browser: Tor Browser is already running, but is not responding. To use Tor Browser, you must first close the existing Tor Browser process, restart your device, or use a different profile."
