This patch also removes the 'extensions.torbutton.no_tor_plugin' pref and simply uses the 'plugin.disable' pref instead. Thanks to our patch for Bug 10280 in tor-browser.git, buttons on the plugins section of about:addons already let you "Enable plugins" and "Disable plugins" (i.e., toggle the 'plugin.disable' pref). Also it's probably better to remove this footgun in the UI.

An equivalent checkbox, "Always use private browsing mode" is already available in about:preferences#privacy. Better to leave it more hidden from the user in any case, as it is inadvisable to disable private browsing mode. We remove the 'extensions.torbutton.block_disk' pref and use the 'browser.privatebrowsing.autostart' pref instead, because they are equivalent.

Remove the remains of the Torbutton settings panel (which was hidden by the fix for bug 14630). Remove the status bar panel (the status bar was removed in Firefox 4). Remove the outdated "Disable Torbutton to change these settings" message from the Firefox proxy settings dialog. Change the behavior of the "Restore Defaults" button in the Privacy and Security Settings window to no longer reset the browser's proxy preferences. Our general philosophy is that if Torbutton does not provide a GUI for changing a preference, Torbutton should not modify the preference. The exceptions are that Torbutton still supports the TOR_SOCKS_PORT and TOR_TRANSPROXY environment variables. Remove a lot of toggle logic, including extensions.torbutton.tor_enabled and related preferences. Remove the dual cookie jar support since Tor can no longer be turned off. Rename torbutton_close_on_toggle() to torbutton_close_tabs_on_new_identity(). Remove torbutton_check_socks_remote_dns() since SOCKS remote DNS is supported by all modern versions of Firefox. Remove torbutton_has_good_socks() since it was testing for Firefox 5 or newer. Remove unused Firefox version check variables, unused functions, and commented out code.

Avoid displaying the "request English language web pages?" prompt on non-HTTP pages. Previously, the prompt was displayed when the about:tbupdate page was opened and, on Linux at least, the prompt dialog came up blank. To avoid a similar problem in the case where someone sets their homepage to an HTTP page, we delay showing the prompt for two seconds when the URL of the page that is being loaded matches one of the configured home page URLs. Remove references to the following obsolete Firefox preferences: intl.accept_charsets intl.charsetmenu.browser.cache Remove the following unused default preferences: extensions.torbutton.saved.accept_charsets extensions.torbutton.spoof_charset extensions.torbutton.spoof_language extensions.torbutton.spoof_locale Remove the following unused entity from all dtd files: torbutton.prefs.spoof_english

This is the first version of the slider that contains explanatory strings to make it more clear to the user what is changed and why. Special thanks to Mike Perry for helping out getting this part of the UI in good shape.

This adds a button to utilize the domain isolation to get a new circuit for the current tab only.

Mike Perry authored
We only hide this for now in case we want to bring it back as a secondary tab after everyone cries about it. It also simplifies the code changes to simply hide it. Also clean up the associated Torbutton menu and strings for clarity.
-
Mike Perry authored
Also update the string so it is more clear that it is a secondary dialog, once we do get it working again.

Always display a "Check for Tor Browser Update..." menu item (to avoid localization issues, the menu item label entity was not renamed). When the menu item is chosen, open the Update Service prompt window to perform the update check.

Version 0.2 contains the slider and the option to choose a mode which results in preferences enabled/disabled depending on the respective security level chosen. The UI is in Torbutton's preferences dialog only for now. If the user manipluates preferences governed by the slider the custom checkbox is checked and unhidden indicating that the user is currently in a non-standard user group. Missing pieces: -tooltips/help buttons explaining the security levels -preferences for disabling SVG and MathML (#12827 and #13548)

Early commit for translation. I think the long form descriptions will have to be a separate ticket. We're going to want to spend more time thinking about them than we have available right now.

Also its not clear yet if duckduckgo can handle our traffic as the default. Plus I kind of like ixquicks's proxy feature, for when Tor is blocked by a link and Eris really wants you to work for that data ;)
