[Suggestion] Migrate to an alternative to Transifex, ideally self hosted
I believe Transifex has problems: privacy issues, proprietary software and resilience issues.
Transifex is a proprietary SaaS (software as a service), which I would guess doesn't align with Tor Project's values. Transifex was originally an open-source project, but in 2013 the open-source version was discontinued (source). If Transifex closes down, transfers ownership or censors Tor Project, the ability to translate Tor will be compromised. Ideally, Tor Project should self-host the l10n project. For example, Tails uses its own instance of Weblate for website and documentation translation, and so does SecureDrop.
- Is a migration away from Transifex, for example self hosting, possible?
- How can people interested in l10n contribute without touching Transifex?
