Write a template to help censored users to provide helpful Tor logs and test results
While reaching out to #40030 (moved) TM people, I started to write down a step-by-step so that users can provide helpful information about the internet and Tor censorship. Later we can add this to the Support portal, Censorship section.
Test 1: Running emma-web
Goal: Test if your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is blocking the Tor Project's infrastructure and websites.
- Turn off your VPN (or other tools to circumvent censorship).
- Using your regular browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox), visit the website: http://emma.gus.computer
- Scroll down and click "RUN".
The test will try to connect to websites and report if they succeed or fails. Share the test results by email (frontdesk at torproject.org).
Test 2: Testing your vanilla Tor connection
Goal: Test if you can connect directly to the Tor network. Sometimes censors are blocking torproject.org website, but you can install Tor Browser and connect to the Tor network without using a Tor bridge.
- Turn off your VPN (or other tools to circumvent censorship).
- Open the Google Play Store or F-Droid, and install Tor Browser for Android.
- After installing, try to connect.
- If Tor doesn't connect, please swipe to left and share your Tor logs with us (frontdesk at torproject.org).
