Torrc file cannot be updated in Standard User mode

When running Tor using Vidalia in Standard User mode on a Mac, Vidalia reports that the torrc file in Macintosh HD/Library/Tor/ cannot be edited or saved as torrc.orig.1. This does not occur as an Administrator. This happens on new and updated installations. My workaround has been to use the Torrc Configurator web page to create a new torrc, then save this in the Macintosh HD/Library/Tor/ folder, overwriting the original torrc. This does not solve the issue as warning alerts occur about the problem in Vidalia, however Tor does seem to function afterwards.
