Support hardware-based crypto offload
As a long-term goal, we should eventually support hardware-based cryptographic offloaders like Intel Quick Assist, or the cryptographic accelerators on certain NICs from Chelsio or Mellanox/Nvidia (not nForce). This will help when >1 Gbps NICs and connections (both broadband and hosting) become mainstream, especially if we can't get multithreaded little-t tor.
I am a FreeBSD relay operator and am interested in using cryptographic offloading (a.k.a In-Kernel TLS) to speed up my Tor relay, and many Linux operators may want this as well. Although admittedly the bandwidth scanners don't see my full Gigabit due to me being in Seattle (they don't even see 100 Mbps across two instances), but this may change.
