Evaluate metrics for VPN clients and their privacy risk
As part of the VPN project we should evaluate which metrics we think are relevant both network and client side.
If we want to start collecting client side metrics, we should evaluate their privacy risk. We should also consider that up to now we have been collected network metrics only, so this might pose a paradigm shift for Tor and the way we collect data in general.
In 2017 Tor Metrics produced a report about Privacy analysis of Tor’s in-memory statistics which addressed possible privacy issue with data present in tor network nodes' memory or metrics reported data.
If we want to start collecting client telemetrics we should invest time to produce a similar study and consider possible privacy issues and mitigation strategies of collecting and storing sensitive data.
