How large is the Onion Space?
Description
How large the Onion Space actually is? This issue is about documenting what we know.
Tasks
-
Document what is known about actual Onion Space size/occupation, perhaps at the Onion Space section: -
In number of unique addresses: https://metrics.torproject.org/hidserv-dir-v3-onions-seen.html -
In number of Onion Service directories: https://metrics.torproject.org/relayflags.png?flag=Running&flag=HSDir -
The hashring size? Rough estimates (avg. and max): lowest/mid/highest estimations (25kB to 50kB per descriptor). -
In bandwidth: - Current official numbers: https://metrics.torproject.org/hidserv-rend-v3-relayed-cells.html
- Last time these stats were compiled (in 2015): Onion Services were 3% percent of total Tor traffic.
- As of July 4th 2024, it seems to be 19.4% or all Tor traffic.
- Thus, on 2024-07-04, 19.47% of client traffic is Onion Services traffic and 27.32% of traffic seen at a relay is Onion Services traffic.
- What this is about, we don't know yet.
- Recent analysis available at tpo/network-health/analysis#67 (comment 3079577)
-
In number of TLS certificates.
