Hi! The UX Team wish to kindly request that the following surveys be migrated in their totality (i.e. the full survey, including both question structure and responses):
In addition, we have two further surveys that are currently active, and which we're not sure whether we can close in time for the July 22nd or August 1st deadlines. These are:
This is due to the fact that they've been created to collect feedback on digital security trainings that partners are conducting, and although these were originally scheduled to be finished ahead of the LimeSurvey upgrade it's looking increasingly like that may no longer be the case.
So, @nah will update this thread as soon as we know when the trainings will be completed. If we need more time, would it be possible to extend the life of the old LimeSurvey instance temporarily until the trainings are complete and their feedback's been collected?
Once closed, these will need migrated in their totality too.
Lastly, if you want to take the opportunity to clear all surveys and start fresh (which I would be in full favor of), these are the structure-only surveys we'd like to migrate over to the new instance:
@duncan I've created an account for you on the new instance, you should have gotten an email with a password reset link. Once you've finished creating the new account, you should be able to review the surveys that have been imported so far!
There are some surveys the comms team needs to preserve. I don't have time to look in LimeSurvey right now to give you the exact names, but I will by the end of my day, Pacific.
The new LimeSurvey 5.x instance is now installed on survey-01.torproject.org. Next week I'll set up the user accounts and start moving over the inactive surveys.
i have made a lsa dump locally in case something happens and the survey disappears. i don't believe there is any hostile content in there, the distribution of that survey was pretty restricted (tor-internal), so i think it should be safe to migrate.
One thing I've done in this instance to try and leverage User groups in LimeSurvey to help manage survey administration and streamline the various access permissions.
I'm not entirely certain that I've set it up the correct way, so do let me know if there are things that seem missing or you don't have access to.
@duncan So after having transferred a few surveys, I think it should be possible to transfer the currently active surveys related to trainings, to the new instance. That way we wouldn't have to delay the retirement of the old server, and the surveys would remain available, minus a short transition period where the survey.torproject.org address is adjusted to point to the new server.
Have you had the chance to check out the other surveys we transferred, do they look like they're in shape?
Hi @lavamind! I had a look at the surveys and they look good, thank you. We still have 3 more trainings to happen - and they will likely happen until the end of this month - it is difficult to predict the exact date and time they will happen because the conditions to the training can change quickly.
But, if they do happen in the next week or so, it wouldn't delay the retirement of the old server, right? Is it ok to wait until then? Just to be safe.
Thank you!
Hey @nah! Thanks for getting back to me. If the trainings all happen within the next two weeks then that works for me! Just let me know if any of the dates slip to later next month, so I can plan appropriately.
@lavamind [update] We're only missing one response right now, but the person had a death in the family, so they are going to take an additional week - we will be able to close it by the end of next week. Is that alright? If not, I can also move to ask them to send their feedback by email. Thank you.
@nah I'd leave it up to you because I don't know how much extra work it would be to produce and process that feedback via email versus via LimeSurvey? I would just mention that I'm off on 2 weeks of vacation after August 12 so it might only leave me a very small amount of time to get this done before I'm away.
And asked the one person that didn't report yet to email me their report in case that the survey is unreachable, so you can proceed with the migration. Thank you for your patience!
Hey everyone, so this is the final call to review your surveys on the new instance which is now at https://survey.torproject.org
I will leave this ticket open for a day: unless someone shouts in here to say something is awry, I'll begin the retirement procedure of the old server on Wednesday.
