These lines can be added to explain our users **why** installing add-ons on TB is discouraged.https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/web/manual/-/issues/154Add anchors to the mobile page to better navigate2023-11-23T15:40:38ZemmapeelAdd anchors to the mobile page to better navigateThe page at https://tb-manual.torproject.org/mobile-tor/ is becoming too big, has many different aspects of TBA. https://tb-manual.torproject.org/onion-services/
But three issues remain on that page and could use some more help:
* We devote a good chunk of the page to onion service authentication, which I would think is a real edge case. Most users never see that or think about it. Should we move it to the bottom and mark it as an 'advanced situation' or something?
* Our advice if the onion service is gone is to try again later. That's probably bad advice, since probably the story is that the onion service has been gone for years and you are clicking on a thing that will never work. Are we comfortable saying that if it's gone it's probably just gone and you should move on?
* We have this awkward phrase "onion site versions of websites" which might be exactly what our style guide tells us to say, or maybe we can simplify to the smoother "onion versions of websites"? I don't remember what our style guide suggests.
There is also a fourth issue we could consider addressing, https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/web/support/-/issues/236, which suggests that we document the magic securedrop names too.https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/web/manual/-/issues/145Improve this phrase in TB mobile manual2023-06-20T18:34:40ZGusImprove this phrase in TB mobile manualThis paragraph is very redundant ("if you know..."), we should improve it: https://tb-manual.torproject.org/mobile-tor/

I think this is unnecessarily confusing.
It might even be leading to users fishing the thing out of the bridge line that looks like an address...
Since internally (and presumably in the community) we speak of "bridge lines", maybe that should be the official terminology? Or we could invent a new term ("bridge spec") maybe, but changing existing usage is slow of course.
We should be clear internally about precisely what the terms mean, and use them consistently (for example, the "bridge line" does not seem to include the `Bridge` that appears as the keyword in torrc).https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/web/manual/-/issues/19Security Settings Page bullet lists have inconsistent font size2022-01-20T19:16:08ZMona GhassemiSecurity Settings Page bullet lists have inconsistent font sizehttps://tb-manual.torproject.org/security-settings/

I'll copy and adapt the relevant ones:
1. The list of links on the main page uses `<h5></h5><p></p>` structure. Besides the incorrect heading level, this should probably just be a `<nav>` anyway.
2. On the main page, there is an empty `<h5><a href="menu"></a></h5>` at the top of the page, which causes screen reader noise. It should be removed or hidden.
3. On sub-pages, the side navigation bar "Topics" heading is `<h4>` rather than `<h2>`.
4. On sub-pages, at the top of the main content there is an empty `<h3><a href="running-tor-browser" role="button"></a></h3>`. It should be removed.
5. On sub-pages, at the top of the main content is a `<h5>` element which contains a link to the same page, this should just be a plain `<a>` element with no wrapping heading element.
3. The sub-pages, the main content starts with `<h3>` headings, rather than `<h2>`.
5. The alt text for `<img>` elements are not very descriptive of the image. A lot of these are screenshots, but don't describe themselves as screenshots.
6. Some of the text is geared towards users who can see the screenshots.
An example for point 6 would be in the "about:manual#running-tor-browser" page. We have

> The first checkbox is 'Quickstart'. If selected, every time you open Tor Browser, it will try to connect with your previous network settings.
There's no indication that this "configure" is in the settings page, or that "Connection" and "Quickstart" are sections of this page. Using good alt text would help a little, but making the text clearer would help clarify things for all users. Generally, you want something that you could directly read over the phone to help someone on the other end.
Moreover, the use of "Connection Assist" is confusing because the section just before is called "CONNECTION ASSIST", which is something else.https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/web/manual/-/issues/70Tor Browser User Manual needs meta section2022-01-20T19:16:08Zweasel (Peter Palfrader)Tor Browser User Manual needs meta sectionThe Tor Browser User Manual on https://tb-manual.torproject.org needs a section covering

Things we could consider include:
* A clearer definition of fingerprinting protection
* First-party isolation (in lay terms)
* Disk avoidance
* Hardening/sandboxing
* Proxy enforcement
All this should be kept super simple and brief! But right now the description is incomplete, I would say.
Also, in the Security Slider section, we should explain why users would use it, what protections we are trying to provide, and what the tradeoffs are.waywardwayward
