fixup !87 forcing en-US,en on everyone
!87 (merged) is not good
IIUIC, every. single. MB. user will default to asking for en-US,en
for web content. This is wrong on so many levels
- it is not user friendly
- MB says we support x languages but then makes the user jump thru hoops to get what they want/expected
- this skews entropy against non english users
- let's say French OS users install MB and they keep get english web content (where french is expected)
- some % (maybe 10, maybe 30, who knows?) will find out how to untick the request english checkbox
- the others will not know and not change
- the others may even mess up the requested languages by adding in e.g. French and ending up with e.g.
fr, en-US, en
- we already know this UI section is dangerous and have tickets that show this (changing the order) and to tighten it up
- that 10% or 30% or whatever is now a much smaller group than there would have been, and thus we have intentionally made a small group (compared to english) even smaller than it would have been
Also, we have a ticket somewhere in TB where we discussed dropping the "use english" thing, or at the very least the prompt for this very reason. Personally I think users should be able to select any of a preset of web content that we control and that's it.
The whole app/content languages is convoluted and needs an overhaul. The Mozilla UI is weird TBH
edit: tl;dr: spoof english must be opt-in: ditch the prompt, but leave the UI. Auto-set the language based on the OS, if not compat then use en-US
Class, discuss!
