Alt text for images on main page is a copy of the neighbouring headings (Accessibility)
On the main page, we have a series of sections: "BLOCK TRACKERS", "DEFEND AGAINST SURVEILLANCE", etc. Each one is structured something like
<section>
<img alt="Block Trackers" />
<h4>BLOCK TRACKERS</h4>
<p>Tor Browser isolates each website ...</p>
</section>
The problem is that the alt attribute for the <img>
is just a copy of the heading. This leads to double-speech when navigating with a screen reader. Moreover, the <img>
element comes before the section heading, rather than underneath it.
Either the alt attribute should be descriptive of the image itself or be empty. In this case, the images are mostly decorative so an empty string would be ok.
