Why should the mail provider know how often I start Thunderbird? Why should the mail provider be checked if I simply want to read an already downloaded message again?
Check for new messages on startup should be deactivated by default.

While I agree that deactivating it by default is absolutely right, I think it is annoying as hell that I cannot override it manually. I have certain accounts which I definitely want to check at startup. However, if I activate the setting, TorBirdy will deactivate it again at Thunderbird restart, rendering it obsolete. I might be the only one, but this really annoys me.
Couldn't it be made possible to override this setting permanently and maybe serve a warning dialog explaining why it might be a bad idea?
How do you want this to be handled? Can the user opt-in/opt-out on a per-account basis or globally for all accounts? (I think per-account should be fine but just confirming).
