Backporting
Timeline
-
Immediate: patchset needed as soon as possible -
Next Minor Stable Release: patchset that needs to be verified in nightly before backport -
Eventually: patchset that needs to be verified in alpha before backport -
No Backport (preferred): patchset for the next major stable
The MR is currently targeting 13.0 because we don't have a 13.5 branch. However, I think we could start merging to 13.5 instead of 13.0.
(Optional) Justification
-
Emergency security update: patchset fixes CVEs, 0-days, etc -
Censorship event: patchset enables censorship circumvention -
Critical bug-fix: patchset fixes a bug in core-functionality -
Consistency: patchset which would make development easier if it were in both the alpha and release branches; developer tools, build system changes, etc -
Sponsor required: patchset required for sponsor -

Change Description
The new circuit display backend uses the SUCCEEDED
event, which means that a server replied.
However, some services block exit IPs and don't even answer, so we don't update the circuit display and we don't display which exits are banned (and the new circuit doesn't seem to work).
How Tested
The circuit display keeps working as usual for good sites that don't block Tor
Go to nitter.net, and in case start requesting new circuits. You'll see that the circuit display changes a lot, because Tor tries several circuits to connect to it.
