Creating a dashboard for monitoring URL hits during year-end campaign (and beyond)

In previous year-end fundraising campaigns, we have monitored the overall success of different emails, banners, and outreach by tracking the total number of hits to specific URLs over the entire length of the campaign. Here are the URLs we tracked last year & their overall success. This is useful from a broad, after-the-fact perspective, but pulling data every couple of weeks does not give us useful information about how to pivot the campaign as it is happening.

We need a way to monitor the hits to different URLs on a more regular basis. Specifically, we'd like to have a simple dashboard that we (fundraising / comms) team can check without pinging the Metics team every time we need an update.

@hiro has suggested that we set up a Metabase dashboard with a password and login. Here are some open questions:

  • We need to figure out if we have a common database, or we need to figure out how we connect otherwise
  • Could hiro maintain as a metrics service?
  • Could you protect behind an onion service w/ onion authentication? Maybe / maybe not, could set this up like with the CiviCRM installation
To upload designs, you'll need to enable LFS and have an admin enable hashed storage. More information
