gitlab search cannot reliably find a unique, distinct word in an issue note
In #41416 (comment 3014981), i mentioned the tool goatcounter
.
If I search my mailbox with notmuch
, it easily finds the message:
anarcat@angela:~$ notmuch show --format=mbox goatcounter and tag:sent and to:*@gitlab.torproject.org

But if I use to the Search or go to...
button and type the search term, I hit nothing. I tried "reseting" the narrowed down things until I search all of gitlab to get the above URL, and it still found nothing.
Now, of course, by the time I finish typing this bug report, @hiro filed a new bug report discussing the tool, so you do see a result there (#41737). But notice how it's not the same issue (#41416 (closed)), it's a different issue. We still can't find the original issue in the search results.
Note that this is distinct from the "can't search wikis" or "can't search everything" issue, see also the upstream issue about wikis not being searchable without Elastic Search / Ultimate.
