@nicob yeah that looks right. It is possible that you have some annoying design constraints here in order to preserve reproducibility ( tor-browser-build#29185 (closed) for reference ).
The going theory atm is that we can't have partial alpha transparency in the asset used in the installer, or else we get build reproducibility problems.
The important thing to know for asset authorship/design is that individual pixels in the final asset must be either fully transparent or fully opaque.
Thanks, I looked at the initial conversation, and I agree with @donuts feedback: we should align the color of the box with the channel (so blue for stable, etc.)
@ruihildt definitely! Here's the installer icon with the same blue gradient as the main logo, and once we determine alpha and nightly colors we can do the same there.
@ruihildt great! As far as the MacOS installer icon goes, we created the silver volume disk with the embossed M, which is the same style that Tor will be using. It's an interesting idea though - do you have any thoughts on this @donuts?
@pierov yep I can make smaller versions too! Thanks for including the firefox example to reference

Agreed! Let's circle back to this once we've tackled the main Alpha & Nightly application icons.

Yep, As @nicob mentions these icons are monochrome/metallic – but the release channel is very obvious once the volume's been opened :)
@richard or @pierov would you be able to test this file to see if it works okay re: alpha transparency? On my end it looks good but I want to make sure before getting into the other sizes!
From a quick test, it seems it isn't anymore! So, now I'm creating a scaled version of that file, and I will run a pair of builds (one in my machine, on in tb-build-05) to check we're actually still reproducible.
I've also checked Firefox's installer icon on Windows again: only the 16px is small, all the other versions have a box cover.
