Migration from Transifex to Weblate

We are migrating to Weblate for multiple reasons (we need to start supporting Fluent for Tor Browser, and we are moving to an open source platform thinking on the possibility of self-hosting in the future).

This will be the main ticket that lists all the steps that we will need to follow for a full migration.

  • Get an account in https://hosted.weblate.org

  • Check that any new file added to be translated is going to Weblate and not Transifex.

  • Announce to all projects that we are moving (Tails, EFF, etc)

  • Change code in Gitlab to have it working with Weblate instead. #40077 (closed)

  • Migrate all translation memory from Transifex to Weblate #40080 (closed)

  • Work on building the language reviewer teams on Weblate.

  • Create all projects in Weblate. One branch per repository that needs translation

    • Tor Onion Support. Check with @raya on when we will migrate this project. They are in the middle of translating strings so it may be better to wait until next year. We will have to move it at some point as we can not maintain Transifex anymore after the migration is done.
    • Tor Project. This is the most complex project with 31 different resources (Tor Browser, Snowflake, etc)
      • Tor Browser will go to two branches: base browser and tor browser.
      • BridgeDB
      • HTTPS Everywhere
      • new identity properties
      • onionsprouts Telgram
      • orfox sunsettings trings
      • security level properties
      • snowflake addon
      • tails GUI, MAT client, onioncircuits, opengpg
      • torbutton aboutDialog, aboutTBUpdate, about:tor homepage, brand.dtd, brand.properties, browseronboarding, torbutton.dtd, torbutton.properties
      • TorCheck
      • Tor Launcher network-settings.dtd, properties,
      • Tor Misc animation-titles, exoneraTor.properties, tor-and-https, Tor_animations
      • Tor Policies code of conduct
      • Tor Project tweets
      • Tor relay operators instructions
      • YEC campaign slogans
    • Tor Project Sandbox: some of the resources here will be moved to Weblate. This is a project only for testing the translation process.
    • Tor Project Web. There are 14 resources here:
      • TPO website
      • community portal
      • tb manual
      • support
      • gettor
      • donate-static

For each repository in the Transifex for the project "Tor Project", we will:

  • confirm with the maintainers that they want to start using Weblate for their repository.
  • offer a new setup. Weblate can merge requests in the repository or they continue with the same structure (one branch per project)
  • create a new component in Weblate for the project
  • configure Weblate to push to the repository in Gitlab.

For each repository in the Transifex for the project "Tor Project Web", we will:
